Tonya Maureen Carper Everetts, 68, of Huntingdon, passed away Friday, May 23, 2025, in her beloved childhood home in Petersburg.
Born Sept. 29. 1956, Tonya was the cherished daughter of the late Lester and Louise Carper of Petersburg.
She was a proud attendee of Juniata Valley High School class of 1974. She made her home in Huntingdon with her beloved husband, Merrill, and their loyal dog, Bella. Just this year, Tonya and Merrill celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary — a beautiful milestone honoring a lifetime of love, devotion and memories.
Tonya was preceded in death by her brother, Rodney Carper. She is survived by her sister Monakaren and her late husband, Frank Barnish, and by her brother Randy Carper and his wife, Ruth. Additionally, she was the proud mother of three children, son Shawn Everetts and his children, Seirria and husband Sam, Gavin and wife Savannah, Garett and Skyler; daughter Jessica Scott and her husband, Tony, and their children Kadesha, Tyler and girlfriend Lauren, Hayleigh and her husband Chance, Caden, Karmyn, Trinitty, Aidan and Bentlee; and daughter Heather Householder and her husband, Mike, and their children, Madyson and Jayden. Her love for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren was boundless, and she took immense pride in the lives they built.
Tonya was a member of the Petersburg Lutheran Church, the Cloyd K. Davis American LegionPost 150 Auxiliary, Petersburg, and Standing Stone VFW Post 1754, Huntingdon.
She enjoyed volunteering. She was involved with Center for Community Action, Huntingdon Drop in Center, Salvation Army and the Huntingdon Food Pantry. She also served on the board for Weatherization. She especially enjoyed ringing the bells for the Huntingdon Salvation Army during the holiday season — a tradition that brought her both joy and a chance to give back in her signature cheerful way.
Tonya found peace and purpose in the beauty of the outdoors. Her flower beds were a labor of love, vibrant spaces that reflected her nurturing spirit and love of flowers.
She had a remarkable gift for finding the perfect bargain and enjoyed thrifting, yard saling and chasing down a good deal like a sport — one she nearly always won. If there was a treasure to be found at a yard sale, you could bet Tonya would spot it first and talk the price down with a smile.
Her yard saling and bargain shopping never failed to give her family a good laugh, especially during the holidays.
She will be forever remembered for her generosity, her constant willingness to lend a listening ear and her unwavering commitment to helping others whenever and however she could.
Tonya’s legacy of compassion, humor, and heartfelt kindness will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were lucky enough to know her.
A celebration of life will be held by her family from 1-4 p.m. Sunday, June 29, at 496 Locust St., Petersburg, to honor Tonya’s life and the love she so generously gave.
