Sandy Kay (Keller) McCarty

Sandy Kay McCarty, 62, 4059 Winchester Road, Petersburg, died at 3:50 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 25, 2025, at Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, Hershey.

Born Feb. 25, 1962, in Huntingdon, she was the daughter of the late Harold Keller Sr. and Agnes (Barr) Keller of McAlevys Fort. She married Lewis Edward McCarty May 8, 1982, at the Petersburg Church of the Nazarene by the Rev. Clifford Chew Jr. Mr. McCarty survives at their residence.

In addition to her husband and mother, she is survived by mother-in-law Helen McCarty; brother Harold Keller Jr. and his wife Kim of Petersburg; brother-in-law Randel McCarty of Alexandria; nieces Alicia Henchey and her husband Eric and Amber Purdy and her husband Joshua; and great-nephews and nieces Landon Stoner, Owen Stoner, Vivian Purdy and Vera Purdy.

Her dog Lilly also survives.

She was preceded in death by her son, Ryan Lewis McCarty Feb. 2, 2008, her father, Harold Keller Nov. 22, 2023, her father-in-law, Lewis Dempsey in 1988, and her sister Justine Elaine Lilja May 31, 2020.

Sandy worked for many years as a secretary for Ann’s Accounting and Computer Service in Petersburg, R.R. Prior to that, she was babysitting and working at Valley View. For 19 years, she was her son Ryan’s caregiver before his passing. Prior to having Ryan, she worked at Josten’s Yearbook Co. in State College.

Sandy was a member of the Petersburg Church of the Nazarene. She enjoyed babysitting her nieces, watching her nieces cheerleading and the nephews, playing soccer, camp fires and cooking. She loved relaxing by the pool.

Sandy graduated in 1980 from Huntingdon Area High School.

She was a lifetime resident of Huntingdon County and had lived at her Petersburg residence since 1982.

Family and friends are invited to a visitation 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 29, and 10-11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 30, at the Cutright Funeral Home-Smithfield Chapel, 313 Fairgrounds Road, Huntingdon.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 30, immediately following the visitation with the Rev. Joey Miller officiating. Private interment will be held in St. Stephen’s Lutheran Cemetery, Petersburg, R.R.
