Rex Elwood Lightner, 81, 3524 Charter Oak Road, Petersburg, Barree Township, died Sunday, Feb. 2, 2025, at his residence.
Born Aug. 21, 1943, in Barree Township, he was a son of the late Paul and Alice (Hutton) Lightner. He was united in marriage to the former Judith Ann “Judy’’ Brumbaugh Dec. 17, 1967, in the Mooresville United Methodist Church. Mrs. Lightner preceded him in death Sept. 7, 2016.
Rex is survived by his daughter, Jessica Jo Jones and her husband Shawn of Mooresville; and three grandchildren, Madison Elizabeth Ann Eutzy, Taylor Nevaeh Eutzy and Benjamin Eric Duane Rex Jones
He is also survived by his brother, Michael Lightner of McAlevys Fort, a sister, Thelma Slippey of Philipsburg, a sister-in-law, Gloria Lightner of Pulaski, Indiana, several nieces and nephews and his two cat fur babies, Fuzzy and Buddy.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Edward Lightner.
Rex retired in 1994 after working in the HVAC department for Penn State University, State College, for 24 years. Prior to that, he worked for PennDOT on a road crew from 1965 to 1969. He also worked for Centre Concrete as a driver.
Rex was a member of the Mooresville United Methodist Church and National Rifle Association (NRA). He was also a member of the Juniata Valley Seniors Center and the Cloyd K. Davis American Legion Post 150, Petersburg.
Rex and his wife Judy were co-founders of the Classy Chasis Car Club and named the club. He enjoyed working on his cars, entering and attending car shows.
Rex graduated from Juniata Valley High School with the class of 1961.
He served in the United States Army in the Korean War.
A lifetime resident of Huntingdon County, Rex had resided at his Barree Township address since 1967.
Family and friends are invited to a visitation from 1-2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 6, at the Cutright Funeral Home — Smithfield Chapel, 313 Fairgrounds Road, Huntingdon.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, immediately following the visitation, with the Rev. Mark Mohnkern officiating. Interment will be made in the Mooresville Cemetery, Petersburg.
