Myrtle "Myrt" May (Bairstow) Fox

Beloved Petersburg resident, Myrtle “Myrt” May Bairstow Fox, passed away on the morning of Monday, Feb. 12, 2024, at the age of 81.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lola and Benton Bairstow, and her husband, Robert Fox.

Myrtle is survived by her brother, James Bairstow (Marion Bairstow), children Melissa Kroll (William Welch), Jeremy Kroll and Caryn Fox, grandchildren Lydia Boonie McCall (Timothy McCall II), Jacob Boonie, Lucas Dick, Matthew Dick, Emilee Kroll and Alyson Kroll, and her great-grandson, Julian McCall.

Myrt was a Penn State alumni who dedicated herself pre- and post-retirement to spending time with her grandchildren.

She loved gardening, canning, watching Penn State and Steelers football games, attending her grandchildren’s various activities, doing anything that allowed her to express her creativity, and sharing snacks with her little dogs. Having a generous and open heart, Myrt could never turn away one of the many stray or injured animals that were dragged home to her by her grandkids and daughter, Caryn. She was always willing to volunteer her time and energy for a soul in need, and often stepped into the background to let the people she loved shine in the spotlight. Myrt was a pillar of strength and stability for her family and her absence will be felt by all who knew her.

There will be no funeral services held for Myrt, but her family will be coming together from all corners of the country this summer to privately celebrate her life.

In lieu of flowers, her daughter, Caryn, has requested that donations be made to the humane society or a shelter of your choice in Myrtle’s name, so she might continue helping the animals she loved while on this earth.
