John Kenyon Sr. Obituary

John Robert Kenyon Sr., 85, 1519 Penn St., Huntingdon, died at 1:23 p.m. Saturday, April 20, 2024, at Graystone Court, Huntingdon.

Born April 28, 1938, in Huntingdon, he was the son of the late Elson Clair and Nellie E. (Swanger) Kenyon. He married Anna Mary Herrington in Mill Creek. Mrs. Kenyon survives at their residence.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two children, John R. Kenyon Jr. and Donna M. (Kenyon) Degidio and her husband Donald; three grandchildren, Jason Myers and his wife Jacque, Matthew R. Kenyon and Dakota J. Degidio; three great-grandchildren, Easton, Brady and Kinley Myers.

He was preceded in death by his three siblings, Edwin J. Kenyon, Clair F. Kenyon Sr. and Doris J. (Kenyon) Horn.

He retired in 2000 after working for 35 years as a vice president/general manager of Huntingdon Thrift Co.

John was a member of the Sunrise Hunting Camp since 1978 where he enjoyed hunting for many years and attended the Community Chapel of Hesston. He participated in the Heart Association, the Cancer Drive and the Boy Scouts. He was a life member of the Huntingdon Elks Lodge No. 976, member of the Huntingdon Borough Water and Sewer Committee, former board member of the United Way, PIAA football and basketball official, past president of Kiwanis Club of Huntingdon, past president of Huntingdon County Business and Industry (HCBI) and a past state board member of the Pennsylvania Consumer Discount Association.

John graduated from Huntingdon High School, class of 1956, attended Juniata College for one year and completed banking and consumer lending courses at Penn State University. He graduated from Dale Carnegie after taking management and supervision courses. He was a licensed life insurance, accident and health agent in Pennsylvania.

John served with the United States Marine Corps from Aug. 23, 1957, until his honorable discharge Aug. 22, 1960. He attained the rank of lance corporal and served with the AES-12 MCAS at Quantico, Virginia, and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal with 2nd Award.

He was a resident of Huntingdon County and his Penn Street address since 1971.

Family and friends are invited to a visitation from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, April 24, at the Cutright Funeral Home-Smithfield Chapel, 313 Fairgrounds Road, Huntingdon.

Friends and family may gather at Mountainview Cemetery, Mill Creek, for a graveside service at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 25, with the Rev. Scott Decker officiating. Interment will follow in the cemetery.

Full military honors will be accorded at the cemetery with Marine Corps League detachment participating.
