Donald "Don" Dick Obituary

Donald “Don” Eugene Dick, 86, and Margaret “Peggy” Edith (Taylor) Dick, 84, of Alexandria, entered the pearly gates of Heaven hand in hand Sunday, April 12, 2026.

Don was born March 5, 1940, to Madaline and Gilbert Dick in Duncansville. Peggy was born Feb. 7, 1942, to Sarah and James Taylor in Huntingdon.

They are survived by their children, Kimberly James and husband Randy, Kandy McKinney and husband David, Renee Shuff and husband Bret; grandchildren, Naomi Scott and husband David, Samantha Elliott and husband Michael and Myra Shuff.

Peggy is survived by her siblings, William Taylor and wife Linda and Shirley Scott, and her sister-in-law, Scotty Taylor.

Don is survived by his sister, Marie Bumbarger, and sisters-in-law, Sharon and Lottie Dick.

They were preceded in death by their beloved son, Joby Dick; Don’s brothers, Fred, Jesse and Pete Dick; and Peggy’s brothers and sister, Ralph, John, James, Charles and Raymond Taylor and Marie Wike.

Their beautiful love story began in Petersburg in the 1950s. Don spent his early ears doing everything from helping Peggy care for her animals to writing and recording a love song just for her. Aug. 30, 1958, they ran away together to Winchester, Virginia, where they were married. Peggy was a devoted mother, grandmother, worship leader and pastor’s wife. She enjoyed spending time with family, birdwatching, gardening and doting after her husband, Don.

Don was a pastor and retired from PennDOT as an assistant manager with 30 years of service. He had a passion for spreading the Gospel, baking, tending to chickens, swimming and hunting with his dogs. He had a remarkable ability to fix or build anything, including their home and the homes of their daughters. Together, in their early years of ministry, they taught Sunday school, Bible studies and led prayer groups. They blossomed into a couple that devoted their lives to leading others to Jesus through prison ministry and founding The Light House Worship Center. Rev. Don and Peggy were not ready to retire, insisting they had more work to do for the Lord until their last day on this side of Heaven.

Their lives were firmly rooted in God’s Word and they walked in unwavering faith in Jesus Christ. They never missed an opportunity to share that faith with others. It was common to find them studying the Bible, working on Don’s projects or delivering eggs and homemade bread to family and friends together.

“Because if you acknowledge and confess with your lips that Jesus is Lord and in your heart believe (adhere to, trust in and rely on the truth) that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” Romans 10:9.

A celebration of life service will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, May 1, at The Light House Worship Center, 5466 Alexandria Pike, Alexandria.

Services are under the direction of the Cutright Funeral Homes — Smithfield Chapel, 313 Fairgrounds Road, Huntingdon.
