David Edward McConaughey, 89, 643 Railroad St., Mapleton, died at 6:50 p.m. Monday, May 13, 2024, at his residence
Born Aug. 28, 1934, in Ardenheim, he was the son of the late David and Harriett (Corcelius) McConaughey. He married Raynelle Hooper in 1958 at the Mapleton Methodist Church.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his three children, Curtis McConaughey and his wife Pam, Mill Creek, Kevin McConaughey and his wife Missy, Mapleton, and Craig McConaughey and his wife Shari, Mapleton; six grandchildren, Nichole Benson, Cecile Fuller, Kevin McConaughey Jr., Jaclyn McConaughey, Chelsea McConaughey and Charlette McConaughey; 18 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren; and a sister Anna Price of Huntingdon.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Clara Mae Hoffer and Hazel Park and three grandchildren.
He retired after working for 37 years as a laborer for Owens-Corning Fiberglas in Huntingdon.
David was a life member of the Mapleton American Legion Post 322, Mapleton Hunting Camp and a member of the Lions Club. He enjoyed hunting, gardening and landscaping. He loved helping in his community.
He served in the United States Army from Sept. 1, 1953, until Aug. 31, 1961. He served in the Korean War.
He was a lifetime resident of Huntingdon County and a longtime resident of Mapleton Borough.
Family and friends are invited to a visitation from 11 a.m. to noon Friday, May 17, at the Cutright Funeral Home-Smithfield Chapel, 313 Fairgrounds Road, Huntingdon.
A funeral service will be held at noon immediately following the visitation with the Rev. George C. “Buddy” Baird officiating. Interment will be in IOOF Cemetery, Mapleton. Full military honors will be accorded at the cemetery.
